Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Studies(“EMG” Muscle and nerve study) |
Electrodes are placed over muscles and small electrical stimulation is given over nerves to measure how they are functioning |
A small needle is inserted into different muscles without injecting anything or giving any electrical current, with the purpose of measuring how the muscle fibers are functioning |
Can be very helpful in evaluation of numbness, tingling, weakness, twitches or to see the extent of injury or healing |
Electroencephalography(“EEG” Brain wave study) |
Electrodes are attached in a painless way to the scalp so they can record the brain wave activity |
Can be helpful in evaluation of seizures, loss of consciousness, or other spells |
Routine Awake—done in clinic ~1hr |
Routine Awake and Sleep—done in clinic ~1-1:30hr |
Overnight Video EEG—for more prolonged monitoring |
Ambulatory EEG—can be attached and taken home for 2-3 days |
Polysomnography(Sleep study) |
Measures brain wave activity, breathing and oxygenation, and electrical activity of the heart in a painless way while you sleep |
Overnight studies are done in a private bedroom of our comfortable sleep laboratory |
Titration studies can also be done to find the right settings if you need a CPAP or other machine |
Medical Sleep Equipment | ||
Provides sleep equipment that is physician supervised and delivered by a respiratory therapist |
Migraine and Spasticity(with botulinum toxin (i.e. Botox/Myobloc)) |
These are small injections to temporarily weaken certain muscles that may be playing a role in chronic migraines, spasticity, dystonia, and blepharospasm |
Done with and without use of EMG-guidance |
Can be repeated up to every 3 months |
Vagal Nerve Stimulation(VNS) |
Evaluation for candidates with refractory epilepsy |
Electronic programming is done of the stimulators after implantation by a surgeon |
